Palatine Hill

The middle of Rome's Seven Hills — where Romulus is said to have founded the city, and where Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, and their successors built their palaces (which is where the word palace comes from).

Visit notes (June 30 — guided tour)

• Combo ticket with Colosseum + Forum (€18, 24 hours)
• Walk up from the Forum — same complex, no extra entry
• Best views of the whole Forum and the Circus Maximus racetrack
• Highlights: House of Augustus, Stadium of Domitian, Farnese Gardens (16th-century gardens layered on top of ruins)
• Shade is rare — bring water and a hat
• Allow 1–1.5 hours
