The Basilica di San Marco — Venice's 11th-century cathedral, sheathed in mosaics and topped with five Byzantine domes. The remains of St. Mark the Evangelist lie inside.

- Paid sections: the Pala d'Oro (golden altarpiece), the Treasury, and the upper loggia / horses — the original Quadriga is on display upstairs
- Reservations to skip the line are €3 and worth it
- Strict dress code: shoulders and knees covered (light scarf works)
- No big bags — there's a free luggage drop around the corner
